What to Expect

A calm, practical first step — not a sales pitch

Most of the writers we work with are new to publishing, or coming back to it after a long break. Our first conversations are relaxed, down-to-earth and focused on understanding where you’re up to.

Step 1

You tell us where you’re up to

Share a little about your manuscript, your goals and any worries or questions. You don’t need publishing language — plain English is perfect.

Step 2

We map the next logical step

We’ll outline realistic options based on your budget, timeline and stage of writing, and explain what each choice would involve.

Step 3

You decide in your own time

There’s no obligation to book services on the spot. We encourage you to think things through, talk it over with family, and come back to us when you’re ready.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the most common questions authors ask when they first contact us. If you don’t see your question here, you’re always welcome to ask — there are no “silly” questions when it comes to publishing.

Do I have to finish my manuscript before I contact you?

No. Plenty of authors reach out while they’re still in the drafting or revising stage. We’re happy to talk through what support might help down the track and guide you on the next logical steps.

How much does it cost to work with BookTree?

Costs vary depending on your manuscript length, its current condition, and the services you choose. After our initial chat, we’ll provide an itemised quote so you know exactly what’s included. You’re welcome to start with just one service — such as a beta read or cover design — and decide from there.

Do you take any rights or royalties from my book?

No. BookTree is a fee-for-service provider. You keep full ownership of your work and 100% of your royalties. Our role is simply to help you prepare, package, and present your book professionally — not to own it.

How long does the publishing process usually take?

Every author works at their own pace, and we adapt to yours. Some books come together in weeks; others unfold over years — either is perfectly fine. After we understand your goals, we’ll chat through a clear timeframe so you know what’s ahead.

Can you help with just one part of the process, like cover design?

Yes. That’s our exact model. Every service is quoted upfront and invoiced one stage at a time, so you always know the cost before we start. You can pause between stages whenever you need — it helps many of our authors manage their budgets comfortably.

I’m nervous about being judged. Is my writing “good enough” to contact you?

There’s no “right” stage to reach out. Many writers feel uncertain when they first share their work, and that’s completely normal. If you’d like some extra guidance beforehand, our free mentors and resource library at www.scribbly.com.au may help.

What if I’m not ready for paid services yet?

That’s completely okay. If you’d like support while you’re still exploring or drafting, you’re welcome to visit Scribbly, our free mentoring initiative for writers, where you can connect with volunteer mentors, read articles, and access resources at no cost.
